In April 2019 Burlington City Council declared a Climate Emergency and directed staff to develop a Climate Action Plan. Following a community engagement process, a draft plan was presented to Council in December 2019 and was made available for public review before being approved in early 2020 (April).
In summer 2019, staff also presented the Take Action Burlington – a local environmental update report which included a climate change lens, reporting on initiatives related to air, land, water and waste.
Staff also presented the new Corporate Energy & Emissions Management Plan, a roadmap for city operations to be net carbon neutral by 2040.
