John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is a growing international gateway for affordable travel and the largest overnight express freight airport in Canada. In 2019, the airport served 955,373 passengers, a year-over-year increase of 32%. 

The Airport is owned by the City of Hamilton and managed under an agreement by TradePort International Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vantage Airport Group – an industry leading investor, developer and manager of airport assets. This allows Hamilton International to incorporate best-in-class practices from around the world into its operations.

In 2019, the Airport implemented LED retrofitting lighting projects to reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions. Similar lighting retrofits may be completed in 2020, however no new sustainability projects have been planned at this time.

2018-2019 Annual Business Report

In 2018, the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport continued working with SHB and was successful in setting a baseline year (2017). In 2019, the Airport has LED retrofitting lighting projects planned to continue in reducing consumption and working towards reduction in GHG emissions.

John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is a privately held company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Vantage Airport Group, a leading investor, developer and manager of airports around the world. Its current network is composed of 10 airports, including LaGuardia Terminal B in New York and Midway International Airport in Chicago. Vantage is also JetBlue Airway’s preferred development partner for the airline’s international terminal redevelopment project at New York’s John F. Kennedy International.

Each sustainability initiative enhances operational performance and/or supports persistent shareholder value by focusing on supporting economic development, enhancing the capabilities of staff and community or, minimizing operational impacts on the environment.

As we are in the preliminary stages of implementing a Sustainability Management Plan (SMP), we envision:

  • Developing a system for evaluating project and program proposals
  • Integrating SMP updates into our annual business planning cycle
  • Reporting on, and publicly sharing sustainability results
  • Engaging the entire airport community in sustainable practices
