Walker is a fifth-generation family-owned company headquartered in Niagara. Since its inception in 1887, the Walker group of companies has continually developed and evolved while remaining true to its founding values. We pride ourselves on our ability to develop custom emulsions solutions for our customers’ unique needs.
Our team of scientists working in our state-of-the-art labs are equipped to deliver sustainable solutions across a variety of industries. In addition to our large volume bulk products, we ship over 120 custom products each month including metal grinding fluids, hand sanitizers, portable toilet chemistries, soaps and cleaners.
2020 Annual Impact Report
Walker was deemed as an essential service business, and we continued to operate throughout 2020. The health and safety of our employees and our broader communities remained paramount and we adapted operations as needed.
Early on, we enlisted our chemists to develop a Health Canada licensed hand sanitizer that was donated to the local community at a time when it was in short supply. On the technical side, we established a partnership with SMARTECH to be their exclusive North American vendor for SmartWaxSys technology, an innovative new solution that will help our clients produce high-performing products for less cost while also reducing their environmental footprint.
The green benefits result from reduced consumption of wax in the manufacturing of engineered wood products, and require fewer delivery miles for our carriers because water is added at point of production rather than being pre-mixed. Walker Emulsions continues to invest in research and development to add to our bio-based line of products.
2019 Annual Impact Report
Walker Emulsions continues to invest in research and development to add to our bio-based line of products. 2019 saw a considerable expansion of the technical department with the hiring of innovation and quality control managers, co-op students and junior chemists. This new scientific firepower will be aimed at new product development, current product improvements, and sourcing of sustainable alternatives for raw materials.
We continue to utilize the Walker Industries Social-Economic-Environmental (SEE) Model in conjunction with other internal programs to understand how sustainability is integrate throughout our operations, as well as to identify, manage, and mitigate risk. We continue to encourage our employees to be involved within our communities, by providing them with 2 volunteer days.
We understand that sustainability is not an end, but a work in progress. It is about meeting today’s needs without compromising the wellbeing of future generations. In 2019, Walker Industries engaged their marketing department to rebrand all divisions under a single identity with the brand promise of “Building a sustainable future, together”.
In designing the new logo, the three brushstrokes of the ‘W’ represent the sustainability SEE model (social, economic, environment) that all Walker Industries divisions use in their decision-making process. This rebranding is a reinforcement of Walker’s commitment to sustainable business development. For us, sustainability goes beyond social responsibility or ethics. It is what drives us to innovate and become pioneers in our industries.
2018-2019 Annual Business Report
We understand that sustainability is not an end, but a work in progress. Since setting the 20% GHG reduction target in 2017, Walker Emulsions has worked to identify areas of energy reduction and best practices for temperature management.
As product temperature control is a large portion of our energy consumption Walker Emulsions has undergone a project to identify optimal operating temperatures during seasonal changes. We have improved our data collection and first the first time was able to report In Accordance with GRI. We look forward to transitioning our reporting to the new GRI Standards.

We are working to finalize our Climate Action Plan, which seeks to meet our climate objectives of mitigation, adaptation and resilience by integrating climate action into business planning. We continue to encourage our employees to be involved within our communities, by providing them 2 volunteer days.
2018 was the 15th Anniversary of our EARTH 1st Philosophy and in celebration of that, we created a contest that encouraged employees to complete various environmental activities, to show them how small actions can have a large impact. We were able to report energy saving, waste reduction, water conservation data and more back to our employees.
